1. La pregunta incómoda para romper el hielo: ¿Quién es? Y ¿Qué hace Enrique Parrilla?

 Soy un simple hombre con diferentes sombreros, decir que soy fotógrafo comercial y creativo sería sólo la punta del iceberg. He estado en un viaje interesante y he sido lo suficientemente afortunado para forjar mi camino en el mundo de dos ruedas.

1. The uncomfortable question to break the ice: Who is and what does Enrique Parrilla do?

I am a simple man with many hats.  To say that I am a commercial photographer and creative would just be the tip of the iceberg.  I’ve been on a strange ride and been fortunate enough to make opportunities come my way in the 2 wheel world.

2. ¿Cuál es tu conexión con México?

 Soy hijo de padres inmigrantes originarios de Cuernavaca, Morelos. Fueron ellos quienes vinieron a este vasto país en busca de oportunidades y ¡vaya que lo lograron!. Siempre compartieron su historia con mis hermanos y conmigo, además nos enseñaron a hablar español como primer idioma. Mi madre creció en una familia humilde de granjeros en Santa Maria, una infancia llena de trabajo duro. Mi padre viene de una familia grande radicada en las afueras de la Ciudad de México donde fue criado duro como el acero.

2. What is your connection to Mexico? 

I am the son of immigrant parents from Morelos, Cuernavaca - They came to this vast country to make opportunities happen and they sure as fuck did.  They always shared their story with me and siblings and taught us to speak spanish as our first language.  My mom was raised from humbled farmers in Santa Maria, hard working beginnings.  My dad came from a big family in the outskirts of Distrito Federal (DF) and was raised tough as nails. [Es]

3. Tu trabajo ha cautivado a muchos, el estilo de vida aventurero en dos ruedas que tienes es inspirador, comunicando a través de imágenes que dan ganas de salir a rodar y nunca regresar. Como motociclista, ¿Cuál ha sido tu aventura más épica?

Cada una es especial, pero tengo que decir que la más reciente fue con mi esposa a través de la costa Oeste. Nuestro viaje empezó en Los Ángeles donde tomamos nuestras Harley-Davidsons, ella en una 2020 Lowrider S y yo en una 2020 Ultra Limited, una moto de gran tamaño. Nos dirigimos hacía Joshua Tree desde Los Ángeles durante la primera noche, y el día siguiente desde Joshua Tree hasta Ventura directo hasta San Francisco por la PH1. Uno de los caminos mas hermosos con vista al Océano Pacífico, atravesando después el desierto y los parques nacionales de Redwoods, simplemente increíble.

3. Your work has captivated many, the adventurous lifestyle on two wheels that you have is inspirational, communicating it through images that makes you get on the road and never coming back, as a motorcyclist, what has been your most epic adventure?  

Each one is special but I do have to say that the most recent one I took with my wife through the West Coast was a memorable one.  Our journey started in Los Angeles where we picked up our Harley-Davidsons.  She was on a 2020 Lowrider S and I was on a 2020 Ultra Limited, a huge bike.  We headed to Joshua Tree from Los Angeles for the first night, then the next day headed from Joshua Tree to Ventura where our journey to San Francisco all through the PH1.  Some of the most beautiful roads looking out the Pacific Ocean and then going through the desert and redwoods, just incredible. [Es]

4. ¿Desde cuándo has estado involucrado con las motocicletas? Y ¿Cúal fue la primera motocicleta que compraste con tu propio dinero?

He estado rodando desde hace 10 años. Algo que siempre quise hacer pero no sucedió hasta mi adultez. Amo mi Harley-Davidson pero la primera motocicleta con la que comencé  este viaje fue una 1981 Kawasaki KZ750. Era un viejo pedazo de mierda pero me enseñó a entenderlas.

4. Since when have you been involved with motorcycles and which was the first motorcycle you bought with your own money?

I’ve been riding for over 10 years now, something I always wanted to do but didn’t get to it until my adult days.  I love my Harley-Davidson but my first motorcycle that started this journey was a 1981 Kawasaki KZ750.  It was an old piece of shit but it taught me how to wrench on motorcycles. [Es]

5. Revisando tu cuenta de Instagram hay tres motocicletas que destacan. Una panhead, una shovelhead y una streetbob: Cuéntanos más sobre ellas. 

Son mis bebés. Usualmente me inclino hacia los motores viejos y es exactamente por eso que tengo lo que tengo a excepción de la 2020 Street Bob (FXBB). Supongo que pueden decir que mi 1973 FLH (Shovelhead) tiene mi corazón, ese sonido único “potatoe potatoe potatoe potatoe” es el latido de mi corazón. Además he tenido que trabajar en esa bastarda para dejarla bien. Mi próximo amor sería mi Johnny Cash Special - Panhead. armada con cabezas de una panhead del 48, la base de una 65, con un cuadro y transmisión de una shovel del 81 con una horquilla de 39mm de una sportster y por último un hardtail panhead. Es básicamente mi Johnny Cash Special, no puedo esperar a terminarla este año. Últimamente mi moto de diario es una bella 2020 FXBB Harley-Davidson. Puedo ir hasta 400 kilometros sin llenar el tanque y eso hace mi vida mucho más fácil cuando quiero viajar por lo menos 1,300 kilometros.

5. Scrolling through your Instagram feed there are three motorcycles that stand out: a panhead a shovelhead and a streetbob: tell us more about them. 

Them are my babies, I usually gravitate towards older motors and that's exactly what I have minus the 2020 Street Bob (FXBB).  I suppose you can say that my 1973 FLH (Shovelhead) has my heart, that unique sound ‘potatoe potatoe potatoe potatoe’ is the beat of my heart, also I’ve had to work on that bastard to get it just right.  My next love would be my Johnny Cash Special - Panhead.  To break it down it’s a 48 top panheads(cabeza de motor) and 65 bottom on a 81 Shovelhead frame and transmission with 39mm Sportster front end and to top it off it has a repop panhead hardtail.  So it’s basically my Johnny Cash Special and I can’t wait to finish it this year.  Lastly my daily rider, a beautiful 2020 FXBB from Harley-Davidson - I can go 250 miles without a gas fill up and boy does that make life so much easier when I tend to travel 800 miles at the minimum.[Es]

6. Harley-Davidson, ¿Cierto? Ser patrocinado por ellos es un sueño de muchos y logro de pocos. ¿Cómo es que se dio esa relación? 

Ha sido muy chingón (increíble para nuestros hermanos latinos). Me han apoyado mucho y ha sido muy bueno trabajar con ellos. Aún durante estos tiempos difíciles de pandemia hemos creado un gran compañerismo y han sido muy útiles a lo largo del camino. Empezamos conversaciones a finales del 2019 y haciendo planes para el 2020. Muy agradecido de poder trabajar juntos.

6. Harley-Davidson right? Being sponsored by them is the dream for many and an accomplishment of few. How did that relationship begin? 

It’s been fucking fantastic, they’ve been so great to work with and supportive.  Even through these hard pandemic times we have created some amazing partnership and they’ve been nothing but helpful along the way.  We started talking late 2019 and building out plans for 2020, just thankful we could work together.

7. Si pudieras elegir una motocicleta para viajar por el mundo, ¿Cuál sería?

Honestamente, la mejor moto es la que tengas a la mano.

Honestly the best bike is the one you can reach next to you.  [Es]

8. Has estado probando la LiveWire la nueva moto eléctrica de Harley-Davidson lo cual me lleva a la siguiente pregunta; Motos eléctricas, ¿Si ó no? 

Oh, un rotundo SÍ. Como mencioné antes prefiero las motos viejas pero no deberías comparar motocicletas eléctricas con motocicletas de combustión. Ambas tienen su nicho en el mercado y son fabricadas diferente a propósito. Créeme cuando tocas el acelerador en la LiveWire, arruinará el concepto de velocidad. Es muy loco, a la gente que critica el futuro les pido que lo prueben.

8. You’ve been trying out the LiveWire, the new electric motorcycle by Harley Davidson, which brings me to the next question; electric motorcycles: yes or no? 

Oh a resounding YES.  Like I mentioned before I prefer old bikes but you shouldn’t compare electric motorcycles with combustion motorcycles.  They both have their place in the market and are built differently for a purpose.  Trust me when you hit the throttle on the LiveWire, it will ruin the concept of speed.  It’s insane.  To the people who critique the future, I ask that they test ride one.[Es]

9. Harley-Davidson Livewire motocicleta eléctrica en México será lanzada este año 2021 y la has estado probando. Queremos que nos compartas detalles sobre la moto, cómo su conducción, aceleración, comodidad, velocidad, batería, rendimiento y sobre todo si te gustó o no. 

Es muy rápida y lo suficientemente buena para llevarte por la ciudad. Es cómo un Tesla en dos ruedas.

It’s fucking fast and enough juice to get you around the city.  It handles like a tesla on 2 wheels.  [Es]

10. La nueva Livewire te ha dado oportunidad de probar algo nuevo, ¿Eres optimista en el futuro de las motocicletas? 

Una vez más, el futuro es ahora. Aceptémoslo. Mis motos viejas siempre estarán aquí, pero el cambio es bueno.

10. Trying out the new LiveWire has given you a taste of something new, are you optimistic in the future of motorcycles? 

Again, the future is here - embrace it.  My old bikes will always be here too, change is good.[Es]

11. ¿Qué depara el futuro para Enrique Parrilla?

Estaré fumando tabaco en pipa en nuestra granja en Carolina del Norte. Rodando sobre sus increíbles colinas y creando nuevas aventuras.
